Hamilton Chrono-Matic II (9379): Why The Hell Aren’t These More Popular?

Why this particular Hamilton Chrono-matic II isn’t more popular among enthusiasts is beyond me. Near as I can figure it, it's because it straddles that shadowed area of vintage watches that isn’t quite old enough to be “real vintage;” yet it hit the markets about a decade too soon for it to get the praise provided by the horology journalism of today.

VIDEO: A lot of squares and a few surprises – 5 of the best Bell & Ross watches of 2018

It’s always fun seeing Bell & Ross at Baselworld. Aside from the quality, and strong, distinctive DNA of their core offerings, the design-oriented brand is exceptionally good at creating narratives and mythologies around their watches. Case in point is the new Racing Bird series, a colourful take on their vintage line, inspired by a concept … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: A lot of squares and a few surprises – 5 of the best Bell & Ross watches of 2018 appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: Set sail with the Franck Muller Vanguard S6 Yachting

Yacht rock is one of the Time+Tide office’s favourite genres of smooth, easy listening music, so it should come as no surprise that we’re more than willing to get behind the Franck Muller Vanguard S6 Yachting, which see’s the brand’s typical large, curvex case in mirror-like gold holds - well, less watch than you’d expect … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: Set sail with the Franck Muller Vanguard S6 Yachting appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: The Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton - a Defy Lab-inspired entry level to the collection

It sort of feels like all we’ve been hearing about from Zenith through the last year leading up to Baselworld 2018 has been all things Defy. And fair enough, the Defy Lab is technically the biggest thing since the horological equivalent of sliced bread (the winding rotor perhaps?). As we got closer to the fair, … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: The Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton - a Defy Lab-inspired entry level to the collection appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: The top Jaquet Droz watches from Basel 2018 (hint, there’s a lot of Grande Seconde in the mix)

Just because Jaquet Droz is a relative newcomer to Australia doesn’t mean they don’t have history. The brand dates back to the mid-18th century, and, besides watches and clocks, is famous for their incredible automata. And while the incredibly complex, high-end art/engineering pieces are still important for the brand, we thought we’d keep it real … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: The top Jaquet Droz watches from Basel 2018 (hint, there’s a lot of Grande Seconde in the mix) appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Ep. 78 – The Vostok Amphibia… That’s What The Whole Show Is About

Alright, guys - this is the big one. We've been threatening this episode for a while - this week's show is entirely dedicated to the Vostok Amphibia. HANDS-ON: The Grand Seiko Blue Ceramic Hi-Beat GMT “Special” Limited Edition

In the wonderful world of Grand Seiko, if it’s not using a quartz crystal – and, yes, that includes the Spring Drive – then inside is a Caliber 9S movement. Introduced in 1998, the Caliber 9S is the staple of all mechanical Grand Seikos and forms the base for everything from humble three-handers to hi-beats … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: The Grand Seiko Blue Ceramic Hi-Beat GMT “Special” Limited Edition appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

LIST: 3 new Bremont watches that grabbed my attention at their London boutique

When in London, it’d be rude not to drop in and see one of their (very few) British watch brands – Bremont. Luckily, the brand’s co-founder Giles English happened to be around their Mayfair boutique and up for a cup of tea. I might’ve had a coffee, but that didn’t stop Giles and I chatting … ContinuedThe post LIST: 3 new Bremont watches that grabbed my attention at their London boutique appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: With the winning Omega Olympic Official Timekeeper collection

Though technically introduced ahead of Baselworld 2018, the fair provided the first opportunity to take a first-hand look at the latest Omega watch collection for the 2018 Olympics, and to be perfectly frank, I was more than impressed. More oft than not, Omega’s releases tied to the Olympic Games can be quite hit-and-miss. Case in … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: With the winning Omega Olympic Official Timekeeper collection appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.
