Fratello Talks: Are Watch Brands Doing Too Much?

Every other week, we’re bombarded with an onslaught of new watches. And though we’re not too upset about it in principle, the incessant pace at which the majority of watch brands pump out new products has recently had us asking, “Are watch brands doing too much?” Today, on Fratello Talks, Nacho, Thomas, and Gerard join […] Visit Fratello Talks: Are Watch Brands Doing Too Much? to read the full article.

Autodromo’s Bradley Price Lives the Brand Worn & Wound

Autodromo’s Bradley Price Lives the Brand

At their best, watches should tell a story, and we don’t think it’s too much to ask for a bit of soul, romance, and authenticity with that story. When it comes to Autodromo’s line of attainably-priced, motorsports-inspired watches, everything is a direct extension of founder and designer Bradley Price’s own story and passion for car culture and motorsports. It’s a passion he truly lives, and one that lured him away from a successful career in industrial design to the watch world. In a category that’s overflowing with pretenders trading on aesthetics, the motorsports authenticity and creativity Autodromo infuses their watches with isn’t just refreshing – it’s rare.   We’ve covered Autodromo many times over their 13 year journey as a brand and we’ve even collaborated on several limited edition releases with them, so it should come as no surprise that we’re big fans of Price’s work and always interested in Autodromo’s latest and greatest. Their most recent release drives home the brand’s authentic approach in a major way: An official limited edition Prototipo chronograph that celebrates Lime Rock Park, one of the most storied and important motor racing circuits in the country and Price’s adopted home track. When we met up with Price at the 42nd Annual Lime Rock Historic Festival to get our hands on the new Lime Rock Park Edition Prototipo, he was quite literally delivering watches to clients out the trunk of the mint 1960s “K-code” Ford M...

Why watch puns tick me off

In the world of horological journalism, where centuries-old companies lord over a multi-billion dollar industry and push the boundaries of mechanical engineering and art simultaneously, it’s pretty much considered a crime to write a pun into your articles. If you ask me, it’s a total waste of time. Most writers would never stoop that low, … ContinuedThe post Why watch puns tick me off appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

What Marty from Ozark can teach you about surviving Covid disruption and the value of date windows

Hands-On: TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco SJX Watches

Hands-On: TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco

A homage to famed Monaco “Dark Lord”, the TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco is unique for utilising carbon, or more specifically carbon composites, in almost every aspect of the watch – dial, case, and even the hairspring is carbon. Plus it has a specially finished movement that’s visible through the an extra-wide sapphire case back. Initial thoughts The vintage “Dark Lord” is all-black version of the Monaco that’s one of the most desirable of vintage Heuers. It was something of an experimental creation with only a few dozen were made, or perhaps even a hundred depending on the source. One of the first all-black watches, the “Dark Lord” had a powder-coated case like many early black-coated watches. Consequently, the “Dark Lord” case was fragile and few have survived in pristine condition, explaining its rarity and value, as well as why it’s the inspiration for the Carbon Monaco. A vintage “Dark Lord” ref. 740.303N The pleasing black, orange, and cream palette of the Carbon Monaco instantly evoke the “Dark Lord”. And at a distance, the Carbon Monaco even has something of a vintage flavour. But up close it is evidently a modern watch in both style and substance. Unlike the “Dark Lord”, the Carbon Monaco is fabricated from a material that’s naturally black, or at least a dark grey. The carbon composite case has an indelible finish, while also being extremely lightweight. The modern material, along with the geometrically open-worked ...

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Collection? I would Oct 12, 2016

VIDEO: We took the VC Overseas collection to an island paradise and It. Was. Glorious.

Was it really necessary? To take a journey involving two flights (one of them aboard a very small plane) to a tropical island somewhere between Sydney and New Zealand that, at any given time, has a maximum of 750 people on it to test out the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Collection? I would argue that, because Lord Howe … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: We took the VC Overseas collection to an island paradise and It. Was. Glorious. appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.
