We might be small when looking at a world map, but the Dutch are capable of great things! The thing that first comes to mind is no doubt the stereotypical wooden clogs, tulips and windmills, but we’re capable of far more than that. We’re actually a world leader in water management and a fair few […]

As someone who solely writes about watches from micro/independent brands, I’m pleased to share my list of their 20 best releases of 2024. And there is a lot to talk about, of course. All watches listed are ones I’ve handled in the […] Visit A Look Back At Vincent’s Top 20 Microbrand Watches Of 2024 to read the full article.

Whether you like it or not, the electrification of cars is here to stay. While some see it as the solution to our fossil-fuel challenges, personally, I am convinced it’s part of the solution but not the sole saving grace. That said, where most EVs are put on the road aimed at reducing pollution, and […]

Denis Flageollet, master watchmaker and the “mad genius” behind De Bethune’s creations, is passionate about the “great patrimony of classical watchmaking” and resolved to contribute calibres “worthy of the 21st century” (32 calibres to date). While many associate De Bethune with sleek futuristic vessels, Flageollet’s attention to classical finishings and pursuit of chronometric excellence reflect […]

Honestly, I’m not sure which watch I wore the most last year. I usually choose a different watch to wear daily, so keeping track is hard. My Instagram feed is a good indicator, though. My Cartier Santos Galbée XL is probably the most featured watch on there. That’s partially because it gives me the most […] Visit My Most Worn Watch Of 2024: The Cartier Santos Galbée XL to read the full article.

Very surreptitiously, Omega released a pair of Aqua Terra models just before Christmas that really caught our eye. As Omega’s everyday all-rounder capable of tackling most environments and still look classy, the new turquoise models are descendants of the more colourful and dressier Aqua Terra 150m Shades sub-collection – no texture on the dial, fully […]

With the New Year upon us, I think it’s time to look at what we want our resolutions to be. For me? Well, I think it’s about time I learned German (Mom, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry for making you pay for those lessons for all those years!). Or maybe I’ll lose that pesky ten pounds. Or maybe run a marathon – but who has the time? And for Longines? Well, I can’t say for sure, but I’d think innovating one of their classic watches is probably high on their list of resolutions – and they already accomplished that within the first week of 2025. You see, the latest release of the much-beloved Ultra-Chron series just got an upgrade: the Ultra-Chron Carbon. As a first for the brand, the use of carbon will both add an extra layer of protection for the wearer, while giving a bit of style to the already stylish Ultra-Chron model. First launched in 1968, the Ultra-Chron has long been a favorite for the Swiss maison. Due in part to the well-proportioned cushion case shape as well as for its novelty as being the first diver’s watch to feature a high-frequency movement. It is with this in mind that it’s no surprise, then, to see Longines use the Ultra-Chron as the template for further innovation – and the addition of carbon is one way to succeed here. In terms of design, the black carbon case is especially unique for its manufacturing process. Look closely at the photos and you’ll notice a mosaic of carbon fiber and epoxy resin moulded together – making e...

Talk about acquired taste. Root beer sure is. Its peculiar flavor comes from the sassafras tree. I like it, but others think it tastes like rusty water. The Rolex GMT-Master (II) “Root Beer” is like that too; you either love it or don’t. I’ve always been a fan of the watch. It’s the last day of the year, and once again we’re closing out December with our “Watch of the Year” post. We asked Worn & Wound staff and contributors to pick their favorite 2024 release, and their selections, as always, reveal the huge scope of the watch world. Happy New Year to everyone who has joined us in these pages all year – we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store. And of course, be sure to drop your own favorite watch from 2024 in the comments below. Zach Kazan: H. Moser x Studio Underd0g “Passion Fruit” Collaboration I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few weeks looking back through articles I’ve written and the camera roll on my iPhone anticipating what I might write for my own “Watch of the Year” submission. I also have the luxury of seeing what my colleagues and our contributors have picked for themselves, so I’m truly awash in end of year watch stuff, as I imagine most watch media types are right about now. One thing has become abundantly clear as I’ve scrolled, read, and thought about the last twelve months in watches: it’s been a really great year. A narrative emerged early on, even before Watches & Wonders, that 2024 would be “slow” or “conservative” in terms of new releases. To a point, that proved to be correct. While there were certainly some very good watches released by the likes of Tudor, Rolex, IWC, and other big brands this year, they weren’t gamechangers or the watch equivalent of a pop song th...

Fratello celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. That’s right; two decades ago, RJ started his very own watch blog from his neighbor’s garage…or was it his girlfriend’s attic? A trend that started in the early 2010s, vintage-inspired watches have been one of the main focuses of the watch industry ever since. And, to our biggest surprise, the trend is not over. It might have slowed down a bit compared to the late 2010s, but we’re still seeing dozens of “heritage”, “retro”, or “vintage […]

According to some, 2024 was a slow year for new watches. I beg to differ! It might have been slow in sales but not in new models to choose from. In December of last year, I wrote my first ever watch review: The Twelve from Christopher Ward. I remember sitting at a diner with a friend in Estes Park with the watch on my wrist. I was nervous. Nervous I’d drop it, or scratch it – maybe even lose it. I was nervous I’d have nothing to say. Nervous that even if I did have something to say (and I often do), maybe people wanted to hear it from someone else. Figuring out how to write wasn’t difficult as I’d written a handful of lengthy historical essays over the years but this style of writing was different. The answers I was seeking weren’t found in an archive. I was good at dealing with relative objectivity. Instead, writing about watches was rooted in subjectivity – and that was tough to navigate. I had to become comfortable with having an opinion. And possibly an opinion that some would disagree with. I had to figure out in this new style of writing what I felt about a topic and couldn’t rely on only what the facts and figures say. I had to ask myself, what do I say? The ease with which I was able to express my thoughts about watches came with a little bit of practice. Throughout the course of this year, I even got into the field with a couple of the watches I was writing about, which made me expand my comfort zone in more ways than one. In April, I drove the western portion of Route 66 with a bronze Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy. I found some of my narrative voice while exploring the travelogue sty...
