In the opening scene of this video, which was shot on the final day of Baselworld 2018, I say to Felix, “We’re doing a list?!” with a type of delirious, high-pitched Seinfeldian disbelief. What I meant was, seriously, how could we be? We just arrived at Basel! How is it that we are distilling our … ContinuedThe post LIST: Andrew’s Top 10 from Basel, including the watch he got wrong appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

BASEL BUILDUP: The first Omega Speedmaster was released in 1957, so the iconic model is celebrating its 60th this year. We’re pretty confident this means we’ll be seeing an anniversary edition at Baselworld in a few days, which led us to speculate (fairly intensely) about what it might look like. As with all things involving ‘vintage’ and ‘Speedmaster’, … ContinuedThe post BASEL BUILDUP: 6 days to go. It gets boring waiting in lines, especially when you’re hungry. The story of the Fifty Fathoms and Blancpain’s love affair with the oceans begins in 1953. Unlike a great number of contemporary dive watches, which are sea-worthy only in name, the Fifty Fathoms was forged in the crucible of actual dive experience. In 1952, war hero Capt. Robert “Bob” Maloubier was in the process of […]

Purists will immediately, and rightfully, note that Black Tie as a dress code does not allow for the men to wear wristwatches. Yet those regulations come from an era in which Great Britain still had a King and every airplane a propeller. Times have changed, and so have watches. In 2011 Piaget surprised everybody by […]

In the center of the small town of Glashütte, which has been a center of watchmaking since 1845, there is a museum –the “German Watch Museum Glashütte” –which contains treasures out of all proportion to the size of the city that is its home. The building was opened in 1881, in order to house a watchmaking […]

If you’ve recently been following the buzzing micro-brand scene, you’ve probably heard about NYC-based brand Wren. There's no way to keep up, Baller. It's true. There's too much to do and too little time, and somehow it's another Friday, and before we relax together and look at some interesting watches available over the next week, let's take some comfort in the fact that, here in the States, two small-market teams are squaring off in the World Series. Incredibly, the Brewers ranked 19th in total payroll for 2026, while the Rays ranked 25th. I bring this up only to note that anything is possible, and huge congrats to fans of both teams. Sure seems like it's gonna be an amazing series. Scorekeeping last week's picks, the Boucheron remains available, the Breguet sells today, the IWC Aquatimer passed at auction, and the LIP Paul Newman sold for €820. Strays Photo courtesy of Drouot. Mr Clymer, Mr Wind, and Mr Dunne raised a good point that Jaeger-LeCoultre is still underrated, and while this one's unlikely to be a $1M watch, I can think of a few DuoPlans that look more fetching. For those still seeking a slightly under-the-radar integrated-bracelet sport watch from the 70s and 80s, may I present this Omega 'Alveoles.' Here's a vintage anonymous beauty with an 18k gold case and running seconds at the top rather than the bottom of the dial, and, from the same auction, if there's a better-looking vintage regulator than this Eterna on auction anywhere in the coming week, I haven't seen it.
