What We Know Cabot Watch Company (better known as CWC) has launched a new take on its classic military-spec dive watch, this time inspired by some of the earliest watches CWC supplied to the British Ministry of Defense. The result is the CWC Navy Eighty CD-1 Diver, which blends one of the most sought-after and rare early CWC unit watches with a host of modern updates to make for a compelling — and spec-heavy — take on a classic formula. At a high level, this latest release from CWC is not a radical departure from previous CWC offerings. You still get the familiar (and wonderful) 41mm fixed-bar Royal Navy Diver case, with its shrouded crown, chunky rounded lugs, and broad, grippy bezel. You also still get the familiar dial layout originally prescribed by the MOD for watches in the 1950s, plus a handful of vintage-inspired details that help the watch stand apart from the standard Royal Navy Diver available today. These include a handset as close as I’ve seen to the original 1980 CWC-issued divers, including the diamond-tipped luminous seconds hand (a feature largely replaced over the years by a Speedmaster-style teardrop second’s hand) and an old-school, non-serif, non-oval CWC logo. There are big changes here, but they largely come down to finishing and material choices. What We Know Louis Vuitton is adding a new material to its Tambour Convergence collection with the introduction of the Tambour Convergence Mirror Steel. The Tambour collection, first introduced in 2002, takes its name from the French word for “drum,” referencing the case's drum-shaped profile. In 2025, the brand expanded the line with the Tambour Convergence, marking an important milestone as its first guichet-style watch conceived entirely at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. Now, after several precious-metal and artisanal interpretations, the latest model trades gold and platinum for hardened stainless steel, making it more practical for everyday wear and bringing it in at a lower price point than its predecessors. Measuring 37mm across and 8mm thick, the Tambour Convergence is made from a proprietary hardened stainless steel. The watch’s defining feature is its mirror-polished finish—extending across the case, lugs, and crown—achieved through a patented treatment that also increases its surface hardness by nearly six times, reaching a hardness rating of 1,130 Vickers. This makes it more resistant to surface scratches than ordinary steel. According to LV, the mirror-polished finish also helps minor marks blend into the shiny surface, preserving its appearance over time. The business incubator is coming to the watch bench with Ateliers Associés, a new venture promising business support, infrastructure, industry know-how, and contacts for independent watchmakers and young brands. The incubator is the brainchild of industry veterans William Massena of Massena LAB and Louis Westphalen-Lemaitre, a former Hodinkee staffer and most recently responsible for brand development and marketing at LVMH's Gérald Genta and Daniel Roth revivals. William Massena Business incubators, which provide capital, office and manufacturing facilities as well as corporate services and guidance to start-ups in return for a stake in the young companies they back, have been around for more than half a century. They have thrived in the technology, specialized manufacturing, and biotech sectors by backing innovative ideas and business plans. There have also been high-profile failures, particularly in the so-called dot.com era of the late 1990s and early 2000s, as a surge of internet startups joined with tech incubators to raise capital only to collapse in short order. Singapore’s micro-brand watch fair Spring Sprang Sprung (SPRG) returns this November with its largest and most international edition to date. Moving to a larger venue at Glass Dome, the event will bring together 78 exhibitors, up from 22 at its inaugural edition in 2022. New exhibitors and familiar faces Of SPRG’s 78 exhibitors, 40 are returning and 38 are participating for the first time. The newcomers include Christopher Ward and Raymond Weil, adding more established names to a line-up that remains rooted in micro-brands. Catering to this clientele, Japan’s Miyota will exhibit its movement offerings. Returning Singaporean brands include Feynman Timekeepers and Vario, along with strap maker Yi Leather. Four exhibitors will represent Indonesia, while this edition also features the fair’s largest contingent of Chinese watch brands yet, including returning exhibitor Seagull, which, like Miyota, defies the micro-brand classification. As with many watch fairs, the programme includes panel discussions and interactive sessions, with workshops for visitors who would like a more hands-on introduction to watchmaking. This week on The Business of Watches, an extended chat with a duo whose business is watch market data. Charles Tian is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of WatchCharts.com, and Hamza Masood is Head of Business Partnerships at the U.S.-based company. Both are longtime technology executives who turned a passion for watches into a business. That venture is WatchCharts, and it gathers and analyzes secondary market watch prices to show demand trends, price movements, and the relative health and desirability of brands and luxury groups in the sector. Its customers include retailers, watch dealers, collectors, and brands. The third-quarter report, published in mid-October, shows the fifth straight quarter of overall market gains of more than 1%, suggesting stability and recovery. Still, the growth is slowing and is the weakest since mid 2025. While gains are more widespread among watchmakers, with prices for 28 of 35 brands tracked posting quarter-over-quarter gains, the overall WatchCharts index is still about 28% below its all-time peak, a record hit during the post-pandemic euphoria of April 2022. Few small brands can claim to have the kind of success that anOrdain has experienced in recent years. Their enamel dials are so sought after that clients sit on a waitlist that reportedly stretches out to 2030. While some very high end, handmade or bespoke watches take that long or even longer to produce, waiting that kind of time for a watch that retails for around $2,500 is unusual. There’s so much competition at that price, you kind of don’t expect people to really commit for the long haul. But they do commit, and as anOrdain slowly churns out their enamel dialed watches and delivers them to their very patient customers, the legend of the brand grows. Every so often, I’ll see an anOrdain pop up on the pre-owned market, and if the asking price is reasonable (retail + expected inflation over the next 3-4 years seems about right to me) they never last long. There were so many new releases, limited editions, and collaborations launched at Windup New York, we’re honestly still coming up for air and cataloging everything. With around 170 brands, it was a challenge to see everything (full disclosure, not even staff sees everything). And while I definitely spent some time at the Formex booth, most of my attention was on the Aria, their higher end integrated bracelet watch that debuted earlier this year and hasn’t escaped my mind since. Their new release at the show somehow slipped under the radar (at least mine) in all of the commotion. But the new Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Red Shift (the name is admittedly a mouthful) deserves some attention. The new Essence is built on the brand’s Ceramica platform, which prior to the release of the Aria was Formex’s most ambitious and compelling release. It’s a full ceramic version of their Essence sports watch with a proprietary case suspension system. The 41mm case, bracelet, and clasp are constructed entirely from black zirconium oxide ceramic. This is a material that is being used more frequently by luxury watchmakers, and it’s often priced at a premium and positioned as an exotic alternative to metal. It does have a lot of benefits, chief among them being incredible scratch resistance and a light weight compared to steel. Windup Watch Fair has become a mainstay of New York Watch Week and one of the biggest gatherings on the city’s watch calendar, bringing thousands of watch enthusiasts together each year. Now in its eleventh edition, the fair continues to grow, with more than 160 brands (including Baltic, Brew, Sinn, and Oris) participating this year. The 2026 edition marked Windup’s third year at Center415 on Fifth Avenue, where the venue once again gave visitors the opportunity to interact with and shop from a mix of independent and established watch brands — with a handful of tech, outdoor gear, and travel brands thrown into the mix (including Ad Patina, a fan-favorite that sells historic print ads from iconic watchmakers). With free admission, Windup offers an accessible way for both longtime collectors and curious newcomers to experience the industry in person, making it no surprise that it's the world's largest public watch fair. This year, we of course wanted to check out the show, but we also decided to add a little competition to the mix. Our Editor-in-Chief, James Stacey, and Deputy Editor, Tim Jeffreys, went head-to-head to see who could make the most of a $250 budget at the fair.
