INTRODUCING: Five new Tissot PRX 35mm pieces get a bold new look

The words “Tissot PRX” have crossed my lips on many occasions over the past year or so since its release, mostly in the context of discussing watches that represent fantastic value. Yet despite its 40mm size and compact lug-to-lug, the non-articulating first link caused some small-wristed wearers to look for other options. But the fantastic … ContinuedThe post INTRODUCING: Five new Tissot PRX 35mm pieces get a bold new look appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Four tips to avoid getting scammed when selling a watch online

As technology has evolved, online marketplaces have fundamentally changed the game when it comes to collecting. Rare objects that once required months or even years of searching through local stores to find are now just a google search away, most likely with a hefty price tag attached. Unfortunately, scammers have done well to evolve along with … ContinuedThe post Four tips to avoid getting scammed when selling a watch online appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

MICRO MONDAYS: MW Timepieces and the musically inspired Legatodiver

Music is one of my many passions. Zoning out on a couch, listening to songs that got me through life, to me, is a Saturday well spent. With that in mind, finding out a microbrand is creating a musically inspired watch, a diver no less, left me intrigued. Could the Legatodiver from MW Timepiece, based … ContinuedThe post MICRO MONDAYS: MW Timepieces and the musically inspired Legatodiver appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

“Don’t mention the war” – Will real war reduce our appetite for war-related watches?

This morning I was idly flicking through stories on my phone while answering emails, and found myself thick in a cluster of Ukraine-related footage on a friend’s account. He is of Eastern European descent, and his family live within 30km of the Ukrainian border. One of the stories appeared to be shot on a phone … ContinuedThe post “Don’t mention the war” – Will real war reduce our appetite for war-related watches?  appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Penfolds Bin 60A 1962: Australia’s Greatest Wine Ever (Or Certainly A Serious Contender) – Reprise

Best Australian wine of all time? There are a few options, but for Ken Gargett there's a clear winner: Penfolds Bin 60A 1962, a wine that was never commercially released. And whether the Bin 60A 1962 is indeed the GOAT of Australian wine hardly matters. He does suggest, though, that if the opportunity to try it ever comes up, cross oceans to do so. You’ll never regret it.

Talking to Shane Warne taught me how a man should choose his watch

I met Shane Warne last June on a photoshoot. He turned up slightly late with his mahogany suntan and dazzling white teeth and instantly won over the crew with his forthright charm. Not that he needed to make any effort. Because we were already completely in awe of him. It’s hard to explain what a … ContinuedThe post Talking to Shane Warne taught me how a man should choose his watch appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

WHO TO FOLLOW: @Laetitia_hirschy and the Watch Femme community she is helping to build

Watch brands aren’t always the best communicators. After creating what many would consider works of art for the wrist, there sometimes exists a disconnect. “Why am I trying to sell this? It sells itself.” It’s in these moments that a good public relations firm can bridge the gap, helping a potential customer understand why that … ContinuedThe post WHO TO FOLLOW: @Laetitia_hirschy and the Watch Femme community she is helping to build appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Why the revamp of the Omega Speedmaster ’57 collection is an evolution in all the right ways

I’ve always had a crush on the dual register Omega Speedmaster ’57 collection. The design felt modern and sleek while I also appreciated the date complication that was added. Furthermore, Omega still managed to fit a 12-hour counter on the watch. It truly was a match made in heaven until I got to the specifications. … ContinuedThe post Why the revamp of the Omega Speedmaster ’57 collection is an evolution in all the right ways appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

There is one Australian winemaker who has not only been extraordinarily consistent, but produced world class Pinot (and Chardonnay), vintage after vintage, across the board: Bindi Wines, thanks to owner and winemaker Michael Dhillon. It would be a brave critic to leave Bindi out of any list of great Aussie Pinots and Ken Gargett rates the small winery among the very top.

Girard-Perregaux Revives the Retro-Digital Casquette of 1976

Very much a genre that took off in the 1970s, the digital-display quartz watch was invented by American watch company Hamilton in 1970 – and positioned as a high-end watch at the time – and over the following decades various watchmakers from Europe and Asia have presented their own takes on the digital watch, though it is the latter that has come to dominate the market. One of the more memorable was the Girard-Perregaux ref. 9931 “Casquette” of 1976 that was especially sci-fi with its aerodynamic design. But after a brief production run it vanished from the brand’s catalogue until a surprising comeback last year with a unique, modernised version made for charity auction Only Watch 2021. And now Girard-Perregaux (GP) has finally taken the covers off the Casquette 2.0, which replicates the style of the original but with updated tech and materials, namely a ceramic and titanium case along with a new movement. Initial thoughts The Casquette 2.0 is a remake done well. It retains the appealing design of the vintage original, which was a good looking but dinky watch, and instead channels resources to improving the construction and functions. The new scratch-resistant ceramic case and bracelet demonstrates GP’s effort in a thoughtfully improved remake, especially since similarly priced watches tend to rely on black-coated steel. At the same time, the watch has improved in its function. It gains a chronograph and a second time zone, both of which are rudimentary but n...
