LIST: Andrew’s top 5 watches from SIHH 2018, including Panerai, IWC and JLC

This was my 12th consecutive watch fair, so you’d think I’d be used to it by now. But once again, the pace of our unforgiving SIHH 2018 schedule, the endless tracking around in circles at the Palexpo opposite Geneva Airport, and the maelstrom of releases left me – on day four – somewhere between giddy … ContinuedThe post LIST: Andrew’s top 5 watches from SIHH 2018, including Panerai, IWC and JLC appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

LIST: 5 watches that caught our eye on Day One of SIHH 2017 and what they represent

The first day of any overseas watch fair is pretty much a blur of lights and (occasionally ticking) sounds for Felix and me. Don’t blame that on the boogie, blame it on the tyranny of distance. For the friends we are yet to meet this week in Geneva, here’s a pre-emptive answer for you: “We … ContinuedThe post LIST: 5 watches that caught our eye on Day One of SIHH 2017 and what they represent appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: The watches of the GPHG are heading to Sydney, and we’d strongly recommend you check them out

We’re heading into awards season for the watch industry, and they don’t come much more glamorous or glitzy than the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), which is set to take place in - you guessed it - Geneva on November 7. There are 84 watches vying to be named best in show, and the … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: The watches of the GPHG are heading to Sydney, and we’d strongly recommend you check them out appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Fratello On Air: Nick From DC Vintage Watches and Matt From SOTP Join The Show

Mike is taking a week off from the podcast, but that doesn’t mean you have to go without an episode. Instead of finding one guest to fill the gap, I figured, why not two? So this week, I sat down with Nick from DC Vintage Watches and Matt (one half of the Spirit of Time […] Visit Fratello On Air: Nick From DC Vintage Watches and Matt From SOTP Join The Show to read the full article.

Introducing - Laine Watches Celebrates its 10th Anniversary with a New 33mm Model and Evolutions of its P37

In the field of independent watch brands, Laine Watches holds a special place, with its focus on finishing, movement decoration (not manufacturing), and highly respectable guillochage skills. Founded ten years ago by Finnish watchmaker Torsti Laine and based in the Canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the small atelier creates classical time-only watches (even though a chronograph […]

Watches, Stories, & Gear: Jimothy, the Future of the Cinerama Dome, and a New Marvel Trailer

“Watches, Stories, and Gear” is a roundup of our favorite content, watch or otherwise, from around the internet. Here, we support other creators, explore interesting content that inspires us, and put a spotlight on causes we believe in. Oh, and any gear we happen to be digging on this week. We love gear. Avengers: Doomsday Trailer This week, the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was released and has already created a lot of buzz – and, of course, some backlash. While not much of the plot has been given away, we can glean a few things from the trailer, including the arrival of Victor von Doom, a confrontation with Thor, the return of Steve Rogers, and a cast that pulls from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men corners of the franchise. Considering I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the MCU over the years, I’ve done the math and with the release date set to December 18, I can watch one Marvel film every four days and be caught up in time for its premier. Jimothy Honored by City You know, you really got to take the sweet with the sour sometimes. Sure, the world is burning, we’re in another forever war, lettuce will give you a gastrointestinal disease, and the cost of living is too high – but in return for all this suffering, we’ve been blessed with Jimothy.  For those unaware (and I’m so happy to be the one to tell you about this little creature), Jimothy is a wild raccoon in the Seattle area who has short spine syndrome, giving his body a slightly compresse...

The Business of Watches Podcast: Inside Lorier Watches' Acquisition With Lorenzo Ortega And Blake Malin

This week on The Business of Watches, a breaking news story, of sorts. Our friends at Worn & Wound have acquired Lorier Watches. It's a story of success for the New York-based boutique brand that started way back in 2017 with a mission to make vintage-inspired watches, designed to be worn every day, at an approachable price. In a way, it's a tale of too much success. Lorier co-founders, the husband and wife team Lauren Ortega and Lorenzo Ortega, struggled with the rapid growth of the small company, and the inability to meet demand for their products took a toll on the two-person operation. They considered winding up the brand, as it were, but a talk with Blake Malin, the co-founder of the well-established content, retail, and watch event company Worn & Wound, also based in New York, set them on a different path. Lorier founders Lorenzo Ortega (right) and Lauren Ortega (left). Worn & Wound co-founder and CEO Blake Malin. The acquisition of Lorier is the first time Worn & Wound has acquired a watch brand. Malin and Lorenzo Ortega join us to talk about how the deal came about and what's next for both Lorier and Worn & Wound. Though Ortega spent his formative years in Geneva until he was about 18, it's a decidedly American business story in the watch industry. There's plenty of watch business and strategy to discuss, and we hope you enjoy the conversation. Be sure to leave any thoughts or questions in the comments section, and we'll do our best to respond.
