The Quatuor is the most ambitious yet singularly least understood high-watchmaking project ever undertaken by Roger Dubuis. Replace “Roger Dubuis” with “any Swiss watch brand” and you could still make a solid case for the truth of that statement. The Quatuor was first introduced to us in late 2012 and officially at the 2013 Salon […]

In the rarified world of fine skeleton tourbillions, Roger Dubuis stands at the forefront. At SIHH, the Manufacture will introduce a timepiece that takes the art form to new heights: the Excalibur Spider Skeleton Flying Tourbillion. The Spider name is, of course, inspired by the creators of the complex, gossamer sculptures found in nature. The […]

In many ways, the Hommage collection, centrepiece range this year for Roger Dubuis, was all about celebrating the roots of the company. Suitably decorated, the Roger Dubuis stand at SIHH featured life-size watchmakers, each holding a bell jar containing a watch from the Hommage Collection. These represented watchmakers from the past who, in large and […]

The Roger Dubuis booth at SIHH last year was easily the most memorable of them all, featuring a huge golden eagle that towered over visitors, welcoming them into a cave like setting of medieval fantasies. Aptly conceived for 2013, which for Roger Dubuis was the “Year of the Excalibur”, this was a display that I […]

The design of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatuor is the most interesting thing about it. This statement is not as disparaging as it sounds. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. What I’m saying is - despite the intriguing premise of a watch equipped with four sprung balances of identical frequency linked by differentials to form what […]

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Skeleton Double Tourbillon. Interesting watch. I was commissioned to photograph this watch for Revolution Magazine. The final approved photographs appeared in Revolution Asia 28. The electronic version is available for free download of Revolution magazine issue 28 here. I photographed the watch with my trusty Hasselblad H3D-39 with the HC 4/120 macro.Read More

Worn & Wound
As you well know, we here at Worn & Wound are big fans of collaborative watches – we’ve had the pleasure of doing quite a few of our own over the years. Watch collaborations are nothing new, but they haven’t always been as trendy or prevalent as they are today. Sure, adjacent industries like sport, diving, and racing have long found ways to co-create. Rolex and the German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz marks one of the earliest examples of such a partnership tracing back to the 1920s. Still, it wouldn’t be until the later part of the 20th century that co-branded watches would really rise in popularity and become as commonplace as they are now. In the current market, mashups have gone far beyond the usual suspects. Watch brands have been getting creative and tapping anyone and everyone from DJ Steve Aoki to Cohiba cigars and Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Today, we’re going to dig deeper into one such collab that has taken us by surprise, one between Roger Dubuis and the renowned tattoo artist Dr. Woo. For the uninitiated, Brian Woo, better known as Dr. Woo, is a Taiwanese American tattoo artist based in Los Angeles. He’s known for his intricate, single-needle black and gray tattoos marked by ultra-fine lines and minimalist designs that mimic drawn sketches. Over the years, he’s developed a cult following among celebrities like Emilia Clarke, Drake, Miley Cyrus, and Zoe Kravitz, resulting in a long waitlist to get a seat in his chair. View this p...
