LIST: 4 pens that are considerably mightier than the sword

We often wax lyrical about our love affair with Montblanc’s watches, but we’ve also got a soft spot for their famous writing instruments. We were lucky enough to come face-to-face with a selection of their absolute finest recently. It’s not often these golden, gem-encrusted rockstars of the written word, in their lavish presentation boxes even make it … ContinuedThe post LIST: 4 pens that are considerably mightier than the sword appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

The Lengths Of Time: La Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud

Extraordinary moment. A watch that transmits all the achievements of Berthoud as the father of French marine chronometer in a brilliantly contemporary timepiece. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele has revived the mythology of one of horology’s most mythical names with beautiful modern eloquence. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele is better known as the head honcho of Chopard timepieces, but he has […]

Hublot Honours Hardcourt GOAT Novak Djokovic with a Big Bang Tourbillon

Celebrating the career of Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, Hublot has gone to astonishing lengths to infuse the Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition with clever and amusing tennis-related touches. From the case material to the shape of the tennis ball-inspired screw heads, few details were overlooked, making it a worthy tribute to the 24-time Grand Slam champion considered by many to be the greatest of all time. Available in three different colours, each inspired by a different tennis surface, the Big Bang GOAT is not (yet) a limited edition, since production volume is tied directly to the number of wins Mr Djokovic racks up on each surface. Today that number stands at 101 across all three versions, but this will probably increase little by little until his retirement. Initial thoughts Many large luxury brands maintain a stable of superstar athletes as ambassadors, and most also produce limited edition watches in their names. This practice has been around long enough to seem commonplace, but few brands have taken to the task with the ambition and creativity evident in the Big Bang GOAT. While the watch will naturally appeal most to deep-pocketed fans of Novak Djokovic, the tennis theme is fairly subtle, at least on the front. In other words, it’s a good looking watch in its own right, and might also appeal to fans of Hublot with only a passing interest in tennis. The 44 mm Big Bang case is a blend of advanced composites, some infused with the tennis star...

Antiques Roadshow delivers the feels (again) with this old solider’s white-gold Rolex Day-Date

Let’s not sugar-coat things here: life can often be a cold, hard bitch. But if you know where to look, you can still find plenty of feel-good moments to brighten the inevitable gloom. RECOMMENDED READING: Taking the DOXA SUB 200 over the water, but not into it

Kayaking isn’t the sport that immediately comes to mind when you think of DOXA, given that your DOXA is most comfortable hundreds of metres under the water, not necessarily on a narrow boat above the water. But that is exactly where fellow watch writer Sophie Furley from Watchonista took two different DOXA models on quite … ContinuedThe post RECOMMENDED READING: Taking the DOXA SUB 200 over the water, but not into it appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Fratello Talks: Watches We Personally Love But Would Not Recommend

We all have watches we absolutely love but would hesitate to recommend to someone else. That might sound contradictory at first, but spend enough time in this hobby, and it starts to make sense. Not every great watch is universally great. Some require a certain mindset, a specific wrist, or simply a willingness to embrace […] Visit Fratello Talks: Watches We Personally Love But Would Not Recommend to read the full article.

The ABCs of Time – All About Watch Crowns, the Small but Crucial Interaction with your Watch

For almost all modern watches, besides a few exceptions (there is always an exception to the rule), the crown is literally the command centre that winds the mainspring, sets the time and controls common complications like dates, calendars and GMTs. Supplementary controls like pushers complement the crown, but they’re limited to specifics like chronographs or […]

Why I Bought The Fears × Studio Underd0g Mim0sa

When the announcement of the Fears × Studio Underd0g Mim0sa landed in my inbox, I did not expect to eventually swim into the Pacific Ocean with one on my wrist. Yet that is exactly where this watch eventually found itself, bobbing around just off the coast of Sydney, thoroughly disproving the idea that colorful collaborative […] Visit Why I Bought The Fears × Studio Underd0g Mim0sa to read the full article.

Why I Bought The Venezianico Arsenale Bizantino

There are many ways a certain watch can become your next target. Brands hope that presenting their latest creations and making them somewhat rare sparks your desire. For my next watch acquisition, I no longer follow a certain brand’s novelty announcements. Well, in a way, I am following all brands, which I partly justify by […] Visit Why I Bought The Venezianico Arsenale Bizantino to read the full article.

Why I Bought A Third-Generation Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Over The New Version

Recently, I bought an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M with a 43.5mm all-brushed steel case and a sandblasted gunmetal-gray dial. This purchase came after the launch of the fully revamped Planet Ocean. With the fourth generation’s sharper facets, redesigned bracelet with polished center links, slimmer profile, and importantly, no helium escape valve (HEV) at the […] Visit Why I Bought A Third-Generation Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Over The New Version to read the full article.

Why I Bought The Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time

I had to drive from Amsterdam to Brussels in 2015 to see the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time with deadbeat seconds in the metal. It was worth it. Both the three-handed Geophysic True Second and Universal Time impressed me a lot, especially the travel watch with a world-map dial and a practical complication. Upon learning […] Visit Why I Bought The Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time to read the full article.
