VIDEO: The Bulgari CEO brought $750k of watches into our office and for a day we had two bodyguards

‘Like a boss’ is a phrase we’re attempting to permanently retire at Time+Tide. It’s done. But there’s no other way to describe the way the CEO of Bulgari visited our offices. He did it breezily – the leadup was one or two emails, a request to book a place for lunch – but completely like the boss of … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: The Bulgari CEO brought $750k of watches into our office and for a day we had two bodyguards appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Gentlemen, start your envy… Spoiler alert, but it’s comforting that the CEO of Ferrari Australasia, Herbert Appleroth, has a watch collection befitting his station in life. And let me just say, his ‘watch box’ was the best we’ve ever seen. We’d discussed him coming in to share some of his more notable timepieces, but we … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: 9 of the watches the CEO of Ferrari Australasia wears the most, including AP, Richard Mille and Bell & Ross… appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: 5 Things you probably didn’t know about Ryan Reynolds and his watches

You never know who you’re going to bump into in the halls of a watch fair like SIHH. Apart from when you get a tipoff in your schedule that a celebrity will be at a booth at a certain time, and you get there early with your cameraman to make sure you make something happen. … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: 5 Things you probably didn’t know about Ryan Reynolds and his watches appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

LIST: 5 watches that caught our eye on Day One of SIHH 2017 and what they represent

The first day of any overseas watch fair is pretty much a blur of lights and (occasionally ticking) sounds for Felix and me. Don’t blame that on the boogie, blame it on the tyranny of distance. For the friends we are yet to meet this week in Geneva, here’s a pre-emptive answer for you: “We … ContinuedThe post LIST: 5 watches that caught our eye on Day One of SIHH 2017 and what they represent appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: Sex, watches and complications with Kristian Haagen

Watch fairs are not just about watches. They’re as much about meeting, getting to know and catching up with the people that drive the industry, both from a brand and fellow media side. This time last year, we sat down with photographer, publisher and raconteur Kristian Haagen to firstly shake hands, and then to talk about … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: Sex, watches and complications with Kristian Haagen appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

LIST: 4 pens that are considerably mightier than the sword

We often wax lyrical about our love affair with Montblanc’s watches, but we’ve also got a soft spot for their famous writing instruments. We were lucky enough to come face-to-face with a selection of their absolute finest recently. It’s not often these golden, gem-encrusted rockstars of the written word, in their lavish presentation boxes even make it … ContinuedThe post LIST: 4 pens that are considerably mightier than the sword appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: Everything’s all white – we test the brightest Omega, Bulgari and Rado watches on one Sydney summer day

A heavenly trio descended from the skies to T+T’s Sydney outpost this week, sparkling like little angels escaped from the tops of nearby Christmas trees. Translation: we’ve got three awesomely white watches to show you. But while they clearly share the same colour and a healthy love of ceramic, beyond that they couldn’t be more different. Here’s … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Everything’s all white – we test the brightest Omega, Bulgari and Rado watches on one Sydney summer day appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Complicated Collectors: Sir David Salomons

“How can you make a watch, my dear boy?” His aunt, Jeanette Salomons, then under medical care in St. Leonards-on-Sea, wrote back to her nephew, David Lionel Salomons, in early March 1867, shortly before her death. He was 16, orphaned since his father Philip’s death earlier that year. His mother, Emma Abigail Montefiore, had died when he was eight. At the time, Salomons lived with his uncle, Sir David Salomons (1st Baronet), the Lord Mayor of London, at Great Cumberland Place, near Marble Arch, making frequent visits to a nearby watchmaker’s shop, where he learned to use a lathe and to file metal to tolerances measured in a fraction of an inch. Fifty years later, that teenage training would allow him to assemble the most comprehensive collection of Breguet watches in history. Broomhill Salomons inherited the expansive Broomhill estate in 1873 when he was 22. His uncle, the first Sir David Salomons, had died without children, and the baronetcy passed to his nephew along with the estate near Tunbridge Wells. The house stood on substantial grounds, and Salomons began altering it almost immediately. Broomhill from the south, a photograph by Sir David Lionel Salomons, 1868 (cropped). Introducing – New Colours and Stone Dials for the Piaget Andy Warhol Watch

Piaget’s swank 15102 reference, better known as the Black Tie watch, captured the zeitgeist of the early 1970s with its oversized 45mm cushion-shaped gold case, dramatic sweeping gadroons and sleek black dial. Reputedly American Pop artist Andy Warhol’s favourite model, Piaget was given the green light last year to rename its cult watch the Andy […]
