HANDS-ON: What a difference a dial makes - the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar

The cool and elegant Vacheron Constantin booth at SIHH was packed with highly complicated pieces (including the most complicated piece), and their top-line SIHH releases were a mass of brain-bending masterpieces, heavy on the sonneries, sidereal time and celestial maps. But amid all this mechanical splendour I found myself coming back to a simpler – … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: What a difference a dial makes – the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

ADVENT CALENDAR 2016: December 22 - Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Calendar

How has your Christmas present wrapping been going? Maybe take some tips from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Reverso Tribute Calendar fits contemporary and classic into a very neat package. The pink gold case measuring 29.9 mm wide by 49.4mm tall is neither too petite nor too large for most, and it’s quite impressive how many complications JLC can fit … ContinuedThe post ADVENT CALENDAR 2016: December 22 – Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Calendar appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

EDITOR’S PICK: JLC’s Master Calendar Meteorite is out of this world

Editor’s Note: Meteorite dials are nothing new – but we rarely see this exotic dial material on otherwise conservative pieces. The juxtaposition creates a truly special watch with a one-of-a-kind dial that we’d never get tired of staring at.  One of the watches we were most looking forward to seeing in the metal at SIHH 2015 … ContinuedThe post EDITOR’S PICK: JLC’s Master Calendar Meteorite is out of this world appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

SIHH 2015: IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Edition “75th Anniversary”

The Portugieser is perhaps IWC’s most iconic family. Though new models have been added, the essential design codes have survived largely unchanged for 75 years. To celebrate that milestone, IWC has declared 2015 the Year of the Portugieser, and one of my favorite new models from SIHH is the Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Edition “75th […]

500 Years On The Wrist: The IWC Perpetual Calendar Edition Kurt Klaus

In 1985, IWC’s Kurt Klaus presented his latest invention at BaselWorld: The IWC “Da Vinci” Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, which went on to become one of the most justly famed perpetual calendars of all time. The Da Vinci Perpetual Chronograph included the world’s first perpetual calendar mechanism in which all indications could be adjusted without recourse […]

SIHH 2013: the new JLC Perpetual Calendar with Cylindrical Tourbillon

Jaeger LeCoultre’s offerings this SIHH produced some of the interesting highlights of the show for me. The latest Gyrotourbillon 2 was unveilled…but only 2 pieces were made…one on the showcase, and the other on CEO Jerome Lambert’s wrists. Hands-On: The Vacheron Constantin 'Twin Beat' Perpetual Calendar Returns

When Vacheron Constantin announced the original Twin-Beat at SIHH in 2019, I wasn't in the watch space in the same way I am now. I was also focused on a much different price point—the one I shop in, not the one that I've since become fascinated by. So I missed it. A lot of people did, it seems. I don't think this watch, as interesting as it is/was as a first release, was made in particularly large numbers, and for over a year, I heard rumblings about the eventual return of the Twin-Beat. Well, it's here. It's improved. And yes, in the metal, it's both entertaining and impressive. But what is it? Essentially, the watch leverages two balances that beat at different rates to provide either 4 days of power reserve running at 5Hz or 70 days in standby mode at 1.2Hz. Oh, and it's a perpetual calendar as well. We covered the technical aspects back in 2019, so this will focus more on the watch as a revived model. The technical is the key here, but the form factor is impressive as well. A perpetual calendar, with dual balances, measuring 42mm and 12.3mm thick, it's hefty because of the platinum case, but it wears quite well despite the technicality. Vacheron has a tendency to make some impressively complicated watches and, unfortunately, make them quite large in the process. This would never have been a problem in the old days (especially for brands like Patek, which dominated this high-end, integrated complication space), but then again, the specifications of the old days don't ...

Hands-on - The Patek Philippe Cubitus Perpetual Calendar Skeleton 5840P

When Patek Philippe introduced the Cubitus collection in 2024, it drew fierce scrutiny. A square-shaped, angular evolution of the Nautilus concept, it challenged expectations. Yet, over successive releases, from the time-and-date references to the instantaneous grand date 5822P and the more compact 7128 models, the collection has settled into its role as Patek Philippe‘s modern sporty-chic […]

First Look - Two New Editions of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

The worthy successor of the 222 model (which is still made by the brand as part of the Historiques Collection), the Overseas has been Vacheron Constantin‘s vision of the luxury sports watch, a model made to compete with the two other icons of the genre, the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. The current Overseas, which […]

Video - The Refined Flair of the Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Perpetual Calendar

Last year, Parmigiani Fleurier revived the fabled Toric, the first watch released by Michel Parmigiani after launching his eponymous watchmaking company in 1996. Met with great enthusiasm, the new Toric collection embodied everything the original Toric was known for, with the addition of the appealing sartorial touch Terreni is known for. The latest addition to […]
