Ben Affleck’s watch collection is choc-full of surprises

Rolex, AP, Richard Mille. If you were taking a multiple choice test on which watch a celebrity was wearing, the three aforementioned brands would be your safest bets. That’s because celebrities are often fairly safe with their wristwear. Even if they stretch beyond the common three, whatever other brands we catch on their wrists tend … ContinuedThe post Ben Affleck’s watch collection is choc-full of surprises appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

The Indian watch market: Switzerland’s next big target

For years, Swiss brands have heavily invested in the Chinese market. Which has made sense, as year after year, the watch market there continues to be the largest in the world. Yet, with the recent pandemic and China’s love affair with lockdowns, many brands are realising some diversification wouldn’t hurt. And as they’ve scoured the … ContinuedThe post The Indian watch market: Switzerland’s next big target appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Why I broke my New Year’s resolution to purchase this watch

Before I delve deeper into the why, I’d like to bring you up to speed on my collecting habits. In a perfect world, I’d buy what I like and when I like, which many can relate to, I’m sure. However, as a full-time student and part-time Time+Tide writer who’s enthusiastic about watches, sick fits and … ContinuedThe post Why I broke my New Year’s resolution to purchase this watch appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

What would I tell my younger self about watch collecting?

It’s been years since I got into this hobby of collecting watches. When I started, I was asking myself: “What would I leave behind for the ones I love?” The timelessness of watches and the amazing mechanics within them provided the perfect canvas for an object which could bestow such personal meaning. Now, eight years … ContinuedThe post What would I tell my younger self about watch collecting? appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Gerd R. Lang Returns with the Lang 1943 Field Watch

Once synonymous with Chronoswiss which he founded in 1983, Gerd-Rüdiger Lang is now almost 80 but returns with an all-new brand, Lang 1943. Created in partnership with entrepreneur Georg Bartkowiak, the brand’s inaugural watch is the Lang 1943 Field Watch Edition One. Modelled on the wristwatches issued by the British army during the Second World War, the Field Watch is a modern watch with a vintage flavour that’s powered by a restored 1960s movement. Initial thoughts A military-inspired time-only watch is not a novel concept, and the Field Watch sticks to the traditional design, resulting in a watch that is recognisably similar to the Second World War watches made by the likes of Cyma, IWC, and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Lang 1943 isn’t the only brand offering such a watch at the moment; the revived Vertex brand has a similar offering with the M100A and it has the added advantage of being one of the original suppliers during the war. But the Lang 1943 Field Watch is attractively detailed, which is likely due to its founders’ decades of experience, both as horological entrepreneurs and watch collectors. The smoked dial is appealing and sets this apart as a modern watch as oppose to an exact remake. Oddly enough the smoked finish does well with the faux-vintage Super-Luminova and together they give the dial a pleasing palette. One detail worth pointing out is the crosshair on the subsidiary seconds, which was not found on the Second World War originals but is a perfect fit ...

FRIDAY WIND DOWN: Festive cheer, a broken arm and a very drunken watch buy…

Following another COVID-blighted year, we’ve all learned to appreciate certain aspects of life that lockdown deprived us of. The joy of things like pub gardens, schools being open and vaguely regular haircuts. But the most sorely missed of all was the life-affirming pleasure of catching up with old mates. All of which made last night’s … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: Festive cheer, a broken arm and a very drunken watch buy… appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Talking Watches And Guitars With The Legendary John McLaughlin: From Miles Davis To Mahavishnu And Now Only Watch

After Colin Alexander Smith recently noticed John McLaughlin wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in live footage from the 1990s along with various other interesting timepieces, he somewhat cheekily asked him for an interview to discuss his watches rather than his music or his guitars, to which he kindly agreed. Not surprisingly they ended up discussing all three in this riveting interview spanning decades' worth of music, stories, and timepieces.

What Charlie Watts from The Rolling Stones can teach you about wearing a watch

Everyone knows Charlie Watts, who died last week, was the most dapper member of The Rolling Stones. If he wasn’t banging the skins onstage, the mild-mannered drummer was always immaculately turned out in Savile Row’s finest threads. Watts admitted to having more that 200 suits at his London home alone, many of which were specifically … ContinuedThe post What Charlie Watts from The Rolling Stones can teach you about wearing a watch appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.
