HANDS-ON: The Bell & Ross BR 01 Instrument de Marine – an eighteenth century take on their classic square pilot

If Bell & Ross’s Skull Bronze implicitly referenced the golden age of exploration with its nautical case material, the BR 01 Instrument de Marine is far more explicit in its influence. This distinctive watch is inspired by marine chronometres, naval timekeeping devices that were crucial for navigation in a pre-electronic age – the eighteenth century … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: The Bell & Ross BR 01 Instrument de Marine – an eighteenth century take on their classic square pilot appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: Blancpain, but not as we know it. The L-Evolution Tourbillon Carrousel

The watch you’re looking at isn’t a Richard Mille or Hublot creation. No folks, this is made by Blancpain. And who would have expected a brand best known for its famed Fifty Fathoms and dressy Villeret collections to come up with this delicate symphony of complication, housed in an avant-garde, industrial body? Precisely no one. But that’s … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Blancpain, but not as we know it. The L-Evolution Tourbillon Carrousel appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Review: Montblanc TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph LE100

Just last week, Montblanc gave us a pre-SIHH glimpse of the TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph LE100. Truth be told, we are once again impressed with their lineup. Although not an entirely new model, this redesigned limited edition ExoTourbillon reminds us that Montblanc is a force to be reckoned with. It’s no longer just ‘that pen brand’. TheRead More

Dance Of The Hours: The Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Hommage À L’Art De La Danse

Vacheron Constantin has been a patron of the Ópera National de Paris since 2007 and the partnership has produced some fantastic works of horlogical art, including the Métier d’Art Chagall & L’Opera de Paris “Tribute to Famous Composers” (a unique piece) and as well has released the first two watches in a series of enamel masterpieces […]

Shaping A Century

Vacheron Constantin’s tonneau-shaped watch, the Malte, celebrates 100 years with two new models It’s been a century since Vacheron Constantin introduced its first tonneau-shaped wristwatch - which was probably among the first series-produced wristwatches ever made, as 100 years ago, in 1912, the wristwatch was still very much a novelty, tonneau or otherwise. The tonneau shape […]

Vacheron Constantin Metiers d’Art – Chagall & L’Opera de Paris

Incredible! That’s what I can describe it. Incroyable! The Vacheron Constantin Metiers d’Art – Chagall & L’Opera de Paris piece is an exceptional work of art. I am quite speechless when I examined the work, done in enamel by Anita Porcet, an independent enamelist. I normally am not too excited about enamel paintings on aRead More

Seiko Launches a Pair of Updated Marinemasters with their Higher End 8L45 Movement

A common critique leveled at Seiko over these last few years is that they’ve abandoned the affordable enthusiast dive watch market and have been creeping toward a higher priced product. Honestly, it’s fair. Those of us of a certain age can fondly remember the days when an SKX diver could be had for a few hundred bucks, and it basically stood alone in the Venn diagram of pedigree, dive watch bona fides, enthusiast credibility, and affordability. The fact is, there’s a lot of competition for affordable divers these days, much of it driven by the popularity of a handful of key Seiko references.  So it’s no wonder that they’ve sought to expand their footprint elsewhere and make a higher end, more expensive product. What often gets lost in these conversations is that the higher priced Seiko divers are actually very good dive watches that still cover much of that hypothetical Venn diagram, perhaps leaning a little further away from affordability. Seiko recently announced a handful of new references and while many of us hoped a truly affordable SKX alternative might be in the mix, they’ve once again debuted a new diver at a higher rung of their pricing ladder.  The highlight for collectors and serious Seiko fans will likely be the Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver’s Watch (the official Seiko naming conventions are always a bit cumbersome). Yes, this is yet another mostly historically accurate take on the first ever diver rated to 300 meters of water r...
