Omega Discontinued The Speedmaster X-33: What’s Next For This Space-Age Watch?

We mentioned it here a while ago, but the Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer, a watch developed with the help of ESA engineers for missions on the Red Planet, has been quietly removed from the catalog. The Speedmaster X-33 was developed in the 1990s with the help of General Thomas Stafford, among others, and introduced to […] Visit Omega Discontinued The Speedmaster X-33: What’s Next For This Space-Age Watch? to read the full article.

Introducing - The Contemporary Oris Big Crown Pointer Date now with an Oxblood Red Dial

The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is the brand’s hallmark aviator’s watch, introduced in 1938 and characterised by an oversized crown and a central pointer hand that indicates the date around the perimeter. Oris unveils a new color for the refreshed Big Crown Pointer Date. Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case, the oxblood-red dial runs deep and rich. It stands apart from the pastel shades elsewhere in the collection. The darker tone feels particularly fitting as winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere. The Kiwame Tokyo Kubo Momiji Brings Japanese Autumn To Your Wrist

Honestly, I only recently went hands-on with the Kiwame Tokyo Kubo Sakura. We have a team of editors, each with different interests and preferences, and Kiwame Tokyo simply wasn’t on my radar. I was pleasantly surprised when I wore it, though, so I am curious to see how watch fans will receive this new Kubo […] Visit The Kiwame Tokyo Kubo Momiji Brings Japanese Autumn To Your Wrist to read the full article.

First Look: Glashütte Original Brings Murano Glass To The Senator Line

People in the watch community constantly misunderstand aventurine. The sparkly, often dark blue substance used for watch dials isn’t a natural gemstone dug from the ground (though a natural quartzite stone later named aventurine also exists). Rather, it’s a product of accident and human ingenuity. The aventurine we typically see in watches dates back to […] Visit First Look: Glashütte Original Brings Murano Glass To The Senator Line to read the full article.

(Hands-On) Should Glashütte Original’s SeaQ Panorama Date Be The Diver’s Favourite?

Glashütte Original’s SeaQ is certainly a luxury dive watch, but how luxurious can a dive watch get? Let’s find out! What We Love: An extremely bold, tough build Incredible legibility Beautiful movement & open caseback What We Don’t: Mobile but hulking presence nonetheless Unidirectional bezel feels too tight Is there such thing as overkill? Overall Rating: 8.75/10 Value for Money: 9/10 Wearability: 8/10 Design: 9/10 Build Quality: 9/10 Of all the archetypes of German culture, perhaps none is as universally recognised as its knack for over-engineering. Everything from Mercedes-Benz to Mettbrötchen is carefully considered, measured and executed in a manner as precise as it is complex. It’s become so quintessentially German that it’s also an international stereotype, with the intricacies of the country’s industry worshipped just as readily as they are playfully mocked. One industry that constantly walks the line between precision and complexity is horology, where brands like Glashütte Original uphold the values of German watchmaking through their timepieces. Typically, this leans towards the artistic side of things, as seen in recent Senator releases like the Aventurine and Cherry Blossom models from the Atelierauftrag line. But that doesn’t mean Glashütte Original has forgotten its engineering identity – not by a long shot. Meet the Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date, the brand’s premier dive watch. A feature-laden, robust timepiece, you might be...

Direnzo Introduces their First GMT, the DRZ 08 Cosmonaire

As Direnzo heads toward their tenth anniversary next year, they’ve just introduced their very first GMT equipped watch, the DRZ 08 Cosmonaire. Inspired by the future oriented design of the Space Age, the Cosmonaire is, like virtually every GMT watch, conceived as a travel tool at heart, and through a variety of dial treatments really takes on different personalities depending on how it is executed. It’s filled with little details that are sure to be appreciated by enthusiasts as well, the type that might go unnoticed by the more casual observer.  Direnzo describes the case design of the Cosmonaire as having a “soft geometry,” which is highlighted by an elliptical bezel that is curved and thinner on the 3 and 9 o’clock sides than those at 12 and 6 o’clock. It gives the watch a subtly organic feel and aids in helping it achieve the desired flowing profile. It’s visually interesting and I think Direnzo deserves credit here for trying something genuinely different with a slightly higher degree of difficulty. According to the brand, they were going after a look that was reminiscent of industrial design in the 1960s and 1970s, and there’s definitely something about this watch that makes it feel like it would have been at home on the wrist of a NASA employee working Mission Control during that time period.  The dial is bowl shaped, which adds additional depth and visual complexity to the presentation, along with the applied hour markers and an engraved lume fill...

Auctions: The 2026 Geneva Fall Auctions Mega-Preview, Part 1 - Christie's and Antiquorum

It’s time to dig in for the fall auction season, and with over 1225 lots, I must admit I've delayed this out of sheer overwhelming anxiety about the amount of work to do. Also, aside from a small preview of watches held by Phillips in New York a few weeks back, I haven’t had time to handle these watches, which increasingly leaves me unnerved as prices rise and audiences become more educated. It allows folks to pick out details you just can’t notice when looking at hundreds of watches but can find if you look at one or two watches closely, which I don’t have the luxury of. Caveat emptor, as always, but I’ll be going to some previews in Geneva next week, and I will update if I notice anything. In case you missed it, Ben covered some things he noticed for these same auctions, which led to me crossing out some things I was going to cover (since he beat me to it) and to send him a bit of a lamenting text saying that he blew up my spot on a few things I was going to bid on. All is fair in love and coverage. I’m sure I might blow up some readers. Them’s the breaks. So let’s get into what caught my eye. Christie’s - November 9, 2026 We’re going to start where the market has put its attention: F.P. Journe. The elephant in the room is the brand headquartered a 15-minute walk from the Christie’s auction room in Geneva at Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, across the Rhône, and into the Old Town. The demand for Journe is not of the brand’s making, and it has cert...

Hands-On: The Arnold & Son DSTB Stop-Seconds

One of the brands we don’t talk about all that often here is Arnold & Son. It’s a brand that offers an interesting heritage story—Swiss watchmaking with English roots, as the brand proudly headlines on its website in homage to eighteenth-century watchmaker John Arnold. It sits within the Citizen Group as one of the brand’s prestige properties, along with Angelus, and both are led by Pascal Béchu. Many people may be surprised to find out that the Citizen Group’s portfolio extends quite a bit out of Japan, with other familiar names like Bulova, Frederique Constant, Alpina, and La-Joux Perret as key properties, but Arnold & Son stands out mostly due to its price point and complicated high horology offerings.  A little over two weeks ago, in time for WatchTime NY, Arnold & Son introduced a new update to the brand’s DSTB models—the new DSTB Stop-Seconds limited editions in Cliff Grey and Kingsand. Both are limited to 18 pieces each. On the surface, they might look just like new dial and metal combinations for the pre-existing DSTB (Dial-Side True Beat) references, but these new editions get a pretty major upgrade—hacking functionality for the deadbeat seconds. Hacking seconds might not seem like an update worthy of celebration, but for a watch that puts so much emphasis on the seconds hand, it is a welcome sight.  The deadbeat (or true-seconds) complication is, unsurprisingly, the focus of the architecture here, thanks to the mechanism of the complication iso...

Highlights: Colour-Coordinated Watches in Marteau & Co’s “The Blueprint”

Independent-friendly auction house Marteau & Co returns today for its second themed auction of the fall. Every watch in The Blueprint is, to varying extents, blue, or at least a blue-ish purple, and its flagship lot is an unusual example of a watch that laid the blueprint for much of today’s finishing-centric independent watchmaking. As always, Marteau & Co’s “maker’s fee” rewards the maker of the timepiece with 3% of the hammer price for each watch sold. This allows watchmakers to benefit from the appreciation of their past work, also known as the artist’s resale right, or droit de suite, a concept that’s been codified into law across Europe for fine art. This painting by Franco-Belgian artist Celine Lust accompanies a unique platinum Philippe Dufour simplicity with aventurine dial. Lot 4 – Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur Azur A last minute surprise-addition to the catalog, Futur Antérieur Azur the sky-blue debut of Louis Erard and Vianney Halter’s Futur Antérieur. A unique piece created for this auction, this continues Halter’s collaborative streak, homaging the landmark 1998 Antiqua. perpetual calendar. Rather than reproducing the original watch directly, the Futur Antérieur adapts many of its characteristic elements into a more compact and accessible format. The watch retains the asymmetrical display and layered construction that distinguished the original Antiqua. Hours and minutes can be seen through one porthole, and running seco...

Hands-On: Can The Zenith Chronomaster Solo Sport Preserve The Collection’s Identity Without A Chronograph?

The new Zenith Chronomaster Solo Sport removes the collection’s defining chronograph complication, but retains its high-frequency El Primero heart. I take the collection hands-on to see whether it can establish its own identity while still remaining a true Chronomaster! What We Love: Retains the Chronomaster identity Meaningful high-frequency dial pattern Well-proportioned for everyday wear What We Don’t: No alternative strap options Limited dial-and-bezel combinations Shark-tooth track feels busy on darker dials Overall Rating: 8.75/10 Value for Money: 8.5/10 Wearability: 8.8/10 Design: 9/10 Build Quality: 8.8/10 What happens when a brand introduces a model that removes one of the defining elements from an already established collection? Well, that is exactly what Zenith has done with the latest addition to one of the brand’s most refined collections to house the El Primero movement: the Chronomaster. While we were initially expecting a different take on the signature chronograph model, the release of a simple three-hand edition was not something we anticipated, but it is certainly welcome. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Watch Advice (@watchadvice) The story behind Zenith’s Chronomaster Sport begins much earlier than the collection itself, tracing back to the launch of the El Primero in 1969. As the world’s first automatic integrated high-frequency chronograph calibre, the El Primero quickly established the technical foundation that would later ...
