VIDEO: The heart of Panerai – the new Luminor Marina Logo 3 Days in steel

The heart of Panerai’s line-up has to be the entry-level Luminor. A 44mm watch with the classic crown guard-equipped Luminor case and not much in the way of frills. White or black dial, white logo or blue, small seconds or not, and a range of strap options. That’s pretty much it. But you know what? … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: The heart of Panerai – the new Luminor Marina Logo 3 Days in steel  appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: 5 TAG Heuers that impressed at Baselworld 2018

TAG Heuer’s 2018 line-up is, as you’d expect, dominated by chronographs. But just because one complication is the focus, it comes in a surprisingly diverse range of forms. First up is the Carrera Calibre 16, a round steel number with a pleasingly retro dial offered in blue or black. It’s a good looking watch, and … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: 5 TAG Heuers that impressed at Baselworld 2018 appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Seiko has just released three limited edition black divers, and they couldn’t be hotter. We’ve already shown you the automatic SRPC49K, but there are two solar options on the table as well. The SSC673P is a stealthy version of the SSC618P we looked at a little while ago. It’s worth noting that in these images … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Seiko show their dark side with the Prospex SSC673P and SNE493P appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: Singing the blues with the ladies’ Ulysse Nardin Classico

We’re all taught the colours of the rainbow from pre-school, so it’s amazing how many of us grow up to wear only black. Anything brighter is definitely viewed as a risk, which is why smaller wardrobe items are a great starting point for that gamble. For guys, it might be a patterned pocket square or … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Singing the blues with the ladies’ Ulysse Nardin Classico appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: What’s Baselworld really like? Drink three coffees, watch this, you are there dude…

Felix and I are taking deep breaths. We’re getting plenty of exercise. Plenty of sun. And we’re changing our coffee order from latté to long-black, and – at least psychologically – replacing the contents of the water cooler with Cristal. Yes, Baselworld is only weeks away. For those that don’t know, the old B-W is the … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: What’s Baselworld really like? Drink three coffees, watch this, you are there dude… appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: The appeal of Hublot’s Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire is crystal clear

When Hublot released two takes on sapphire Big Bangs last year – the Unico Sapphire and the All Black version – we suspected that wouldn’t be the last we’d see of the clear case material. Lo and behold, our hunch has proved correct with the release of the Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire. Introducing – The Rolex Daytona Rolesium 126502 with White Enamel Dial and Vintage Grey Bezel

For decades, the stainless steel Rolex Daytona has been one of the most desirable watches from the Crown’s catalogue. The brand’s chronograph, born in 1963, has been available in hundreds of versions, but when it comes to steel versions, the choice has always been limited to two options: silvery-white with black contrasting counters or rings, […]

Franc Vila’s FVF2 Time & Day is Quirky Haute Horlogerie SJX Watches

Franc Vila’s FVF2 Time & Day is Quirky Haute Horlogerie

FVF Genève’s second model after the FVF1 skeleton tourbillon, the FVF2 Intrepido Time & Day is a more concise and accessible watch. It’s essentially a familiar formula – time (plus day) and a hand-finished manual wind movement – the FVF2 nonetheless manages to stand out thanks to brand founder Franc Vila’s eye for design. Pictured here with a black mother of pearl dial, part of a five-piece edition, the FVF2 has a pleasing asymmetry. The movement is composed of intriguing geometric forms and quirky details like the square winding click, while also being traditionally decorated with generous bevelling and black polishing. The case is an unusual “unibody” construction where the base plate and case middle are one and the same Initial thoughts The FVF2 might seem like yet another time-only watch with a fancily decorated movement, and it is just that, but not quite. Its creator, Franc Vila, is an industry veteran rather than a newcomer, and is now making a comeback after rising and falling with his original brand some two decades ago. Unlike many recent calibres that try to do more with more, the FVF2 movement is more minimalist but has a recognisable style and artful details. The calibre is characterised by geometric forms that encompass finer elements like the winding click, while also retaining a clear classical bent with the prominent going train and finishing. The treatment for the titanium base plate requires superheated gases to create an oxide layer on t...

First Look – The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 All Titanium, now as a Non-Limited Edition

While most attention in Porsche Design’s timekeeping history probably goes to the original 1972 all-black Chronograph 1 and its modern-day spin-offs, it’s far from all Porsche Design has done over the years. Released in 1972, the Chronograph 1 is still regarded as the cornerstone model for the brand, and as such is reinterpreted in a […]
