Close to 120 years after Abraham-Louis Breguet patented the tourbillon, master watchmaker Alfred Helwig (1886-1974) created a “flying” tourbillon at the German School of Watchmaking in Glashütte. John Howe, the Canadian-born book illustrator and conceptual artist, is best known as one of two chief conceptual designers for the 'Lord of the Rings' film trilogy by Peter Jackson as well as 'The Hobbit' trilogy. He has also illustrated other items based on the timeless story by J.R.R. From the visible cam plate mechanism to the metal binder jet components, it’s obvious that this is not a dainty watch even if the proportions keep it within the standards of large avant-garde watches like Urwerk and MB&F;.
