Elshan Tang founded Zelos in Singapore in 2014, initially through Kickstarter, with a very specific pitch: bring materials normally reserved for haute-horlogerie (meteorite dials, opal, Damascus steel, forged carbon, mother-of-pearl and later fumé enamels) into the sub-USD 1,000 price band. That combination - premium materials + accessible price + limited runs - resonated instantly with a growing global microbrand community and turned Zelos into one of the most-followed independent watchmakers of the past decade.
The house style is sports-watch first: dive references dominate the catalogue, alongside chronographs, GMTs and field-style pieces. Case sizes usually sit between 38-42mm, all with sapphire crystals and Swiss (Sellita) or Japanese (Miyota, Seiko) automatic movements depending on the tier. Where Zelos consistently differentiates is dial construction: hand-cut meteorite slabs, opal inlays with lume-filled markers, Damascus steel dials cut and polished from raw billet, and multi-layered fumé lacquers that few brands at any price point offer.
Releases happen in tight windows. A new Zelos drop is announced through the newsletter and Instagram, followed by a 2-3 week window in which pre-orders are taken and production is committed. Once the window closes, the reference is not restocked - each variant becomes a numbered limited run, and secondary market prices for rare Zelos meteorite variants have historically held or appreciated. The direct-to-consumer model, combined with the community-first release cadence, keeps Zelos operating without dealer margins and passes most of the material spend into the watch itself.
